Asphalt Shingles
Asphalt shingles come in different styles, colours and profiles. Renoteck has the necessary experience to help you select the asphalt shingle to best meet your requirements.
Shingle manufacturers sometimes claim to have superior products that can last upwards of 25 years; however, many of these products have never been tested in the Alberta climate.
At Renoteck, we understand which roofing products will meet Alberta’s weather requirements. We make sure our customers have a proper underlay. We also change flashings and add metal valleys so that our customers have a waterproof roof with proper run-off.
Renoteck selects products from several high quality manufacturers including; Malarkey, Owens Corning and Timberline. Renoteck will help you take the guesswork out of selecting the correct shingle and more importantly supply you with a quality installation.
Asphalt Shingle Profiles
Designer Shingles
Windsor XL designer shingles are a higher profile shingle to give your roof a distinctive look. Windsor XL are engineered with Flexor® polymer modified asphalt technology for superior granule adhesion, extreme weather protection and Class 4 impact resistance. These shingles also feature Scotchgard™ Protector from 3M to reduce black streaks that are caused by algae.
High profile shingles can maximize your home’s curb appeal. Windsor XL shingles are 20% thicker, with a 17% increase in overall mass. This extra thickness creates a more pronounced, high profile design to give your roof a distinctive look.
Raw asphalt must be altered for use in shingles. Traditional methods to alter asphalt diminish its natural, rubber-like characteristics. Flexor™ has been engineered and manufactured with a specially formulated blend of polymers and mixing them with raw asphalt. This process retains more of the rubber-like characteristics of raw asphalt while adding improved flexibility, granule adhesion, cold weather installation, and impact resistance.
Impacts to a roof from extreme Alberta weather can reduce the life of a shingle and lead to water damage. Class 4 shingles undergo testing to withstand impacts from a simulated 2 inch hail stone hitting a roof at speeds seen in severe storms without sustaining damage.
Algae growth on a roof can cause black streaks, which can alter the colour of your roof. Shingles featuring Scotchgard™ Protector help maintain the appearance of your roof by resisting black streaks caused by algae. Shingles with Scotchgard™ Protector include a 20-year warranty.
Alberta’s driving winds can threaten to lift shingles from your roof if they are not properly sealed. Windsor XL shingles feature a specially formulated polymer modified asphalt sealant to help hold the shingle in place during high winds.
Shingles with Flexor™ polymer modified asphalt are more resistant to tearing and nail pull-out, reducing the risk of shingles blowing off on Alberta’s windy days.
Unique roof structures and cold weather can create problems during installation. Flexor™ polymer modified asphalt shingles give added flexibility to conform to unique structures. Windsor XL shingles remain flexible down to 0˚F (-18˚C), which is 40 degrees lower than typical asphalt shingles. This gives Alberta home owners with unusual architectural roof styles an asphalt shingle that will last in our climate.
Windsor XL shingles come with a 110 mph (177 kph) Limited Wind Warranty. Windsor XL shingles are eligible for a 140 mph (225 kph) Enhanced Wind Warranty. Ask Renoteck’s experts about installation options to increase your wind warranty.
